Purpose of the San Joaquin Bike Coalition: The San Joaquin Bike Coalition is a comprehensive not for profit community organization that advocates bicycle safety and bicycle related events in San Joaquin County. The SJBC is involved with local government for the implementation and service of bicycle lanes, being and providing educational resources for motorists and bicyclists, and a hub for the advancement of bicycles as a means of alternative transportation and recreation.

Responsibilities: Subject to the Bylaws of the San Joaquin Bike Coalition, the Articles of Incorporation and the laws of the State of California, the affairs of the San Joaquin Bike Coalition shall be managed, and all corporate powers shall be exercised by, or under the direction of the Board of Directors. Serving as the governing body of the San Joaquin Bike Coalition, Board members are responsible for, but not limited to, such policy areas as SJBC Membership, Executive Director Accountability, Personnel Policies, Strategic Planning, Finances, Community Relations and Organizational Operations.

Commitment: Members of the Board of Directors shall attend regularly scheduled Board meetings. Board members are required to attend 75% of regularly scheduled Board meeting held within a twelve month period unless the absence is excused by the Chair of the Board of Directors. Board members are expected to serve on at least one standing subcommittee of the Board of Directors. Board members must maintain active membership each year.

Eligibility: Interested parties must meet the eligibility requirements as defined by the Bylaws of the San Joaquin Bike Coalition.

Term of Office: Members of the Board of Directors shall serve a one year term ending on January 31st.

Other Duties: Other duties associated with membership on the Board of Directors of the San Joaquin Bike Coalition shall include, but are not limited to, consistently attending regular Board meetings as well as special meetings as called; staff and organizational membership punctuality at all meetings of the Board and attendance for the full meeting is expected; review of Board agenda packets is expected prior to all meetings; active, constructive contributions during all Board meetings are strongly encouraged; Board members are encouraged to approach all issues with an objective point of view before formulating a position; be prepared to assume a leadership role as requested; attend/participate in events sponsored by the San Joaquin Bike Coalition. 

Process: All applications for membership will be reviewed by the Board of Directors of the San Joaquin Bike Coalition. Appointment by the full Board of Directors will be announced as soon as practical.
