PARK(ing) Day 2018

  • 114 N San Joaquin St Stockton, CA, 95202 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Stockton's 2nd Annual Park(ing) Day is coming!

What can you create in a Parking Space when you take away the need to put a car there? PARK(ing) Day asks us to reimagine parking spaces as public spaces. Based on the idea that feeding the meter is a low cost, short term lease on a small chunk of land, participants will be creating temporary installations for one day throughout Downtown Stockton.

Parklets, bicycle parking, art installations, interactive spaces... the possibilities are endless! Come Downtown (by bike, bus, or foot if you can!) and explore what's possible when we get creative about what public space can really be.

PARK(ing) Spaces will be created during normal business hours between 8am and 5pm. Installations will be centered around San Joaquin Street and Main Street in Downtown Stockton.

Park(ing) Day

The San Joaquin Bike Coalition is excited to be participating in this nation-wide event, a first for Stockton.

Park(ing) Day was founded in 2005 by an art/design studio based in San Francisco called Rebar and since that time has grown into a global movement that occurs in hundreds of cities and dozens of countries around the world. The basic idea behind Park(ing) Day is to re-think the ways streets are used and to re-imagine the possibilities of the urban landscape by taking over a metered parking spot and transforming it into something else like a parklet, a music venue, a photo booth space…the possibilities are endless really.
